Motorcycle Repair: Slow starter 84 fxst, cheap batteries, negative cable

Question
QUESTION: I had starter rebuilt, new solenoid, new positive cable, everything else in good condition.  Starter turns over unplugged motor OK.  New battery at 12.5 volts although a cheap one.  When I engage start button, starter/motor turns like it is dragging at a constant slow speed.  Hard to tell if it is even turning over except for a slight cylinder fire every once in a while.  Will not start unless jumped.  When motor is warmed up she starts right away.  What is it?

ANSWER: First, its not a good idea to jump a motorcycle with a car or truck battery. to many cranking amps.
Check your negative cable at both ends to make sure you have a good ground. If it is ok, then check your breakers. You might have a weak one.

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply Mike.  There are no breakers in the line from battery to solenoid to starter.  Am I missing something else?

Answer
If the cables are ok, and it is still draging then it either has to be a bad battery or a bad starter, even though you had the starter rebuilt. Cheap batteries are not always good. They dont last along time and a very low amps.
