Question
I have got a 2000 V star 1100 I got it in 2001 I have replaced the head light two time and the battery onetime since I got it, this past weekend I had to have it pushed off two time's and the last time the speed odometer and the mile odometer quit working it would start working for just a few sec's if I stopped and it was idling, And the side of the battery is bubbly,

Thanks for your time

Answer
Phillip,
It sounds like it is charging excessively.
Should have about 13.5 volts at the battery
when revved up a bit. Check for loose or
corroded battery cables or ground wires.
Check large connectors for loose wires
or bad connectors. The battery is likely
damaged if it is bubbly. Overcharging or
high current due to poor connections
can overheat the battery, maybe even explode it.
Check any fuses and fuse blocks for
loose or bad connections.
Get the charging checked and also the battery.
The speedo has lots of wires on it, could
be it is faulty or possibly the speed sensor.
If you have a faulty charging system or battery
this could damage other devices as well.
Connectors can be coated with dielectric grease
to prevent corrosion.
