Motorcycle Repair: motor wont idle, intake leaks, vacuum hoses

Question
1980 Goldwing that will not idle.  The choke must be on if you do not have the motor at at least 3000 rpm.  The bike has set for awhile, but starts up easy if you choke or throttle it up.  I change the timing belt also.  If I am off a tooth will it cause this or is in the carbs or what else can it be.

Answer
Shawn,
if the bike needs the choke on, then the low speed
or idle jets are likely plugged up from sitting.
The timing belt can cause a rough idle if off
a tooth. I would first suspect the idle jets
because of the choke helping matters.
Also make sure the valves are not too tight,
they should have .004" clearance.
Check for any loose vacuum hoses or intake leaks.
