Motorcycle Repair: oil in exhaust pipe, blown head gasket, head gaskets


Question
i have thick oil in one exhaust pipe.  i feel its a valve problem, but a garage says its the head gaskets.  what do you think ?  i have a 96 buelster -- 1200 sportster w/1200cc motor from a 97 buell.  runs like a raped ape !!  if there is any advice you coule give me .. even if you point me in the right direction of a good repair manual.

If you had a blown head gasket you would hear it. Also, you woulnt have much compression on that cylinder if you did a compression check. You could have a broken ring or it is leaking past the valve guide seal.
Either way the head will have to be removed to see what the problem is.
You should be able to order repair manual from harley.
