Motorcycle Repair: 82 goldwing electrical??, doingit, couple miles

Question
Hey Chris,
I bought an old '82 Goldwing...had it up and running good for two months. Suddenly it acts up....After warming up and driving about 6-7 miles I lose a couple cylinders. Can't tell which ones. Park it and let it cool about 5 minutes and its good to go again for a couple miles.  Talked around and deduced that it was probably a faulty coil.  Replaced the coils....same problem.  Could the plug wires be shorting out as they heat up?? Doesn't seem like anyone around here likes to wrk on the older bikes....so kinda stuck doingit on my own.

Thanks

Ross

Answer
Hi Ross.

It sounds like a short in the system, but most likely it is somewhere between power and the coils.  Since it seems to be heat affected, I would check any ignition circuit wiring which is near the engine and then go from there.

Good luck and ride safe.
