Motorcycle Repair: Electraglide charging, regulator rectifier, stator

Question
On some days, stock 2004 FLHTCI stops charging as RPM increases over 1500 to 2000 as indicated by voltmeter needle and dimmed lights, then charges OK when RPM reduced. Other days seems to work normal. Ohm check of stator indicates .1 ohm with no short to ground. Can Harley regulator/rectifier fail in this manner on cold days but work ok on warm days? Is this failure common? Suggestions for additional troubleshooting?

Answer
When testing the stator you should show infinante OHMs. Also test it for AC voltage. It sounds like you have a short in the stator. Generally when the regulator fails it completly fails. Not off and on.
I would also check the wiring to make sure you have good contact tot he battery from the regulator
Good luck and happy riding
