Motorcycle Repair: Carb and oil issue?, harley owner, oil filter

Question
Hello All,

I have an issue that I need help with.  My 96 1200 XL is spewing oil out of the carb.  I first thought I had a crack on the case when I saw oil dripping on the floor.  When I followed the leak I ended up at the carb?  I did notice some smoke when I first started the bike.  That made me think and I stayed close to home and went around my block a couple times.  When I got home I decided to take off the intake cover and see if I could notice something... and I did!  There was oil dripping from the filter?

Does anyone have some input for me?  I am lost hear?  The bike was running fantastic before this.
I am open to any suggestions.

Answer
Your bike vents the top end to the oil filter. When the air goes a little mist of oil goes with it. After a while the oil builds up and drips.
You can clean it often or run the hose to the bottom of the bike so it will vent under the motor
Good luck and happy riding
