Motorcycle Repair: Charging System 1984 gl1200, engine temperatures, connector wires

Question
When the bike is cold the system charges fine but when it heats up the charging is only about 5 volts I have replaced the stator twice but problem is still there any ideas?

Answer
Hi Brian,

Sounds as if the charging system is suffering thermal break-down. High resistance forming with engine temperatures.

IS the alernator (stator) electrical connector burned, melted, discolored, or otherwise in less than good condition? If so, wire the stator's wires directly to the opposite connector wires. This has been found to reduce resistance.
