Motorcycle Repair: 1983 V65 Magna overheating, 1983 v65 magna, overflow tube

Question
Hi Chris
My '83 Magna suddenly overheated and puked all the antifreeze out the overflow tube by the pressure cap.  The temp gauge went weird-flashing all the bars instead of showing a normal temp indication. I discovered that the fan switch was hooped and that is fixed now.
My question is this-Now, I have white smoke out of both exhaust pipes when the engine gets warm.  There is no evidence of coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant.  Just wondering if you have seen or experienced something similar to this and should I be worried.
Thanks
Rick

Answer
Hi Rick.

It sounds like you've got oil seeping past the rings.  That's what the white smoke is.

This could be a problem depending on how badly it is smoking.  If it's only a very small amount, then you have a bit of time, but if it's a lot, then the bike needs work right away.

Good luck and ride safe.
