Motorcycle Repair: 1974 Honda CL200, robby robby, valve stem seals

Question
I am trying to restore a 1974 Honda CL200. The bike is in great condition except it was burining oil, and looseing power.  So took it appart thinking that I would be able to get parts. It turns out that the most critical parts; piston rings, valve stem seal and valve stem guides are all discontinued. It is hard for me to believe that these parts arn't common to any other bike, but everyone I talk to says they are discontinued. What can I do?! ANY help you can give me would be GREATLY apreciated. Pleas get back to me as soon as you have time. Thank You Very Much, Robby

Answer
Robby, this bike and the CB200T were short run machines and had different wrist pin sizes than the earlier CB175s, as well as a host of other small but important changes that make them somewhat unique.

Check with www.westernhillshonda.com  www.cmsnl.com and www.ohiocycle.com for starters.

Check with this Ebay seller:

The product code for the engine is 354. I took a quick look at Western Hills site and found that they had numerous sizes of pistons/rings in stock.

Before you buy, you need to have a shop check the old parts and measure everything carefully. Oil consumption issues can sometimes just be valve stem seals and sticking rings, which can be carefully cleaned and reused again. If the cylinders have wear or the pistons have seized, then the bores will have to sized to larger diameters. Honda makes STD, .25, .50, .75 and 1.00mm oversized pistons and rings. If you have to bore it out, make sure that the pistons are fitted properly and follow careful, easy break-in procedures for the rings/pistons for the first 500 miles or so.

I am surprised that your engine would need so many parts, unless it has many miles or was not well maintained (or run without air filters, perhaps). Have a competent machine shop measure all the clearances and then order what you really need from westernhills.com or other providers.
There are alot of odds and ends on Ebay when you search either CL200 or CB200 for parts.
