Motorcycle Repair: yamaha v star starting, yamaha v star 1100 classic, yamaha v star 1100

Question
Hi I have a 2002 yamaha v star 1100 classic. The bike will only start in nuetral. I have changed the clutch switch and raised the  kickstand and it will still only start in nuetral.

Answer
Hi Steve.

If the bike used to start in gear with the clutch engaged, then the problem could be the sidestand cutoff relay.

However, since many bikes will not start in gear anyway, because they were designed that way to prevent accidents at startup, it may be that you just need to start it in neutral.

Those are the only reasons that the bike will act like that.

Good luck and ride safe.
