Motorcycle Repair: Kaw Vulcan 800 no power, float bowls, hotmail

Question
My 96 Kaw Vulcan 800 ran great last year. On the first warm day I charged up the battery and started it up. It idled just fine - sounded good as I revved it. Started to take off and - nothing! It died, again and again, even at really high revs, it can't even get me out of the driveway. Put in new plugs, the sparks looks fat. Fresh gas. Took the carb apart and sprayed out the passages with gumout. No luck. Sounds great in the driveway but won't move. Don't no what else to try. Any suggestions appreciated - the shop is not an option for me.

Answer
Hi Nick,

If fuel in the float bowls is not varnished, then I suspect an air intake obstruction. Sometimes, mice and other rodents nest in the airbox and air ducts.

The air ducts and airbox on the Vulcan may be ideal for them, and difficult for inspection.

I'll send a couple of tech files to your email addy.

Respectfully,
