Motorcycle Repair: Goldwing GL 1100 Tachometer, goldwing gl, access panels

Question
Chris:
My tachometer needle started bouncing radically and then stopped working altogether.  I checked the upper connection into the tach but really couldn't see where the other end terminated.  When I losened the upper connection, the cable slide freely up and down in the sleeve.  Can you tell me where the cable terminates on the motor, should I replace and other parts associated with tach?

Answer
Hi Larry.

I am not sure where, exactly, on the engine the tach cable terminates, but all you should need to replace is the cable.

The repair manual should show you the routing of the cable, or you could just trace it yourself.  It will require you to remove some access panels on the bike, but you will be able to access the components for replacement.

Good luck and ride safe.
