Motorcycle Repair: Cant get into nuetral., starter solenoid, motor brushes

Question
Hello, I have a motorcycle that has not been started for awhile, I bought a new battery and tried to turn it over but it just makes a click noise. I can not get the nuetral light to come on even though I tried a hundred times, I know the clutch was almost shot last time it ran, any advise greatly apprieciated!

Hi John,

Q:  "...Hello, I have a motorcycle that has not been started for awhile, I bought a new battery and tried to turn it over but it just makes a click noise. A:  Get a copy of the service manual and follow troubleshooting procedures.

Test the neutral light bulb to see if it has continuity. Check the fuses and conductors in the circuit. Rodents enjoy chewing wire insulation.

The click noise indicates one or more of the following:

-weak or defective battery
-loose battery connection
-worn starter motor brushes
-worn or defective starter solenoid
-worn or defective ignition switch
-worn or defective starter button
-wiring problems
-seized engine

I suspect the following may also be needed:

-carburetors thoroughly cleaned
-fuel tank sealed
-fuel system flushed and cleaned
-spark plugs cleaned/replaced
-oil and filter replaced
-clutch plates & springs (as mentioned)

Respectfully,
