Motorcycle Repair: 84magna 1100cc upshifting problem, engine spec, return spring

first gear neutral andsecond gear ok. no feel the higher gears. fluid looks ok.a spring in the rachet part of shifter has been suggested.with several attemps it can get to 34and5th gear.did not try 6.the actual clutch seems ok.listening to any ideas prior to taking it apart.I realy appreciate your site here.

The Magna/Saber engine has been plagued with problems like these from the beginning.

The problem could be a return spring or it could be a bad shifter fork, or it could be a gear problem.

If you are planning on going into the engine, then I recommend getting the repair manual.  Either the factory manual or the Clymer's manual will work.  The factory manual is best to get every engine spec available.
