Motorcycle Repair: KE 100 Carburator Settings, piston rings, wrist pin

Question
This bike ran prior to the rings wearing out. I just replaced the piston, rings and wrist pin and appear to have a spark. My 14 year old son messed with the carb before I bought the parts and I am not able to start the bike. I do not feel or hear any fire when I kick it.  I would like to know where the carb should be set so I can get it running and adjust from there.

Thanks,
Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,

Set the idle screw or throttle cable adjuster, which ever is present, so the throttle slide is raised slightly.

Set pilot screw two turns as a bse setting. When engine idles, turn out until engine rpm maxes. Turn back in until rpm dwindles. Set between these two positions.

Check and clean spark plug often until engine starts and runs. The plug may be getting wet fouled during starting attempts.

Get a copy of the service manual. Good stuff!
