Motorcycle Repair: Bad oil loss, honda shadow 1100, high pressure hose

Question
I have a 1994 Honda Shadow 1100 with approximately 12,000 miles on it.  After a short ride last week, I pulled into my driveway and looked down to see oil POURING at my left foot. I immediately cut the engine and after waiting for it to cool, I pulled the left crankcase cover off and found where I thought the leak was coming from.  As you look at the plate that has "V Twin" stamped on it, just to the right of that is a cylinder approximately 2" in diameter. The cylinder has a grease fitting on the top side and on the right side of the cylinder is what looks like a high pressure hose connection. The cover to this cylinder is held on by 3 bolts. Thinking that the gasket between the cylinder and the cover had ruptured, I removed the cover only to find that the gasket is hard plastic and was still in good shape.  What I noticed about the cylinder was at about the 5 o'clock mark was a small "notch" that I believe the oil was draining through. I checked the gasket to be certain there was not a matching flange that would have fit in the notch - but there was no such flange.  When I removed the cylinder cover, the cylinder itself was of couse empty except for a little oil residue  and appriximately 1/2 teaspoon of what looked like white grease.  Any suggestion as to how to repair this leak will be greatly appreciated. Please respond to CAllen8914@aol.com. Thanks.
