Motorcycle Repair: no spark,coils?, spark coils, fuse box

I recently changed the cdi box and can't get spark to the plugs. How do I check the coils? They are dual coils,gs850 1981.Is there any thing else you could suggest to check or do to get the spark? The bike used to run great,I hot wired a headlight to the fuse box and very shortly afterwards it had no spark.There is fire at the fuse box,and all the lines,all the lights work,the starter turns it over easily,but no spark to the plugs. can you help? thanks!

Hi Ricky,

I cannot type the lengthy testing procedures for troubleshooting the electrical problem. I simply don't have the time. You can check the system by doing the following:

First, get a copy of the service/repair manual. Follow the troubleshooting procedures carefully.

Second, visit: "www.electrosport.com" and follow their Fault Finding Chart. I recommend their electrical replacement parts over OEM parts.

Third, visit: "www.thegsresources.com" and learn about the infamous GS Series charging problems and other GS related topics. This is a very good resource.
