Motorcycle Repair: Handlebar fairing alignment, triple trees, alingment

Question
When I reassembled the front end on my 96 Decker the handle bars and fairing seem slightly out of line when I am traveling straight. Is there a trick to insure that everthig is all lined up. The forks where originally bent but the rebuilt fork slid nicely back into the triple tree so I'm assuming the tree is good.

Answer
Since your forks were bent, your triple trees might be out of alingment. Jack the bike up so that the front wheel is off the ground. Now loosen the pinch bolts for the forks and triple trees. Have somebody hold the forks straight and check the alingment on the handle bars. Loosing the pinch bolts should make the tripletrees align themselves. If they dont, then you need to put the front tire between your legs and twist at the handle bars to align it.
Good luck and happy riding
