Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki Bandit 600 died in route, suzuki bandit 600, oil light

Question
Mark,
My husband was on his way home today from work and his motorcycle died. He said he went to shift down and nothing... it just died. The oil was recently changed but he said the oil light went to red. He tried to turn it over. Nothing. But he has also been having problems with it idling. I am not sure if it's just this model but he has to run it on full choke for quite a while before it will warm up. We live in Florida so it's not totally cold. We were told this model is just a "cold" running bike. Any ideas?
Thanks

Answer
Kori,

I listed Katana instead of Bandit in my original reply. Bandits, Katanas, and GSX-R's share engines (with some variations).
