Motorcycle Repair: Starts,When hot Stalls, plug wires, rewiring

Question
Hi Mike,I'm wondering if you can give me some direction on where to go with this problem,I have a 1991 XLH1200 Sportster. The bike starts fine but when it gets hot it stalls and will not restart till I let it cool down.I just replaced the starter because of this problem,I burnt out the old one.I also had the coils and rectifier recently rewired.Do you think the coils are a factor with this problem? I did not have any problems with this bike till the rewiring.Thank you for your help.

Frank

Answer
Check your wiring job and make sure you dont have a short. You also need to test the coil as well as the plug wires when they are hot to see if they are good. If the coil and the plug wires test ok, then check the ignition. The coil, plug wires and the ignition can fail when they get hot
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
