Motorcycle Repair: Summer heat, viscosity oil, straight pipes

Question
I have a 2003 Yamaha V-Star Silverada. I modified it with straight pipes for sound and power; however, I was told about a $400 part I should add to keep it cooler and give it more power. I don't have enough money yet. I had a problem of fouling plugs, from running too rich the first couple months, however, It has received a full tune-up since, now it has been running wonderful for the last year,
So, my problem right now is: it is 95-105 degrees outside this month and it is causing my bike to run poorly. Is there anything I could do to improve it's performance for now economically?

Answer
Hi Kathlene,

The trade off with performance is loss of fuel economy.

I would install an oil cooler if she were my MC. The rear cylinder lacks the forced convection that the front cylinder enjoys.

Rear cylinder air-fuel mixtures are richer to help cool the cylinder.

Keep petrol topped off to limit evaporation.

Reference the fouled spark plugs, correcting the air-fuel mix (proper jetting-carb tuning-ignition re-mapping) will resolve that problem if it still exists.

Use the proper viscosity (weight) engine oil for your Silverada. Follow the Owner's Manual oil recomendations.

Read oil container labels for selecting the right viscosity oil for your enviremental temperatures.
