Motorcycle Repair: metallic noise from primary, loose clutch, loose bolts

2003 heritage softail 1700 miles developed a knock or metallic sound coming from primary cover
can you possibly tell me what that could be.Noise can only be heard at idle seems to go away as rpm increases

There are several things that it can be. Primary chain to loose, Motor sprocket nut loose, clutch nut loose, bolts loose on the stator to name a few. First I would check the chain. If that is not the problem then you will have to remove the primary cover to check for the problem.
