Motorcycle Repair: Clutch problems, honda nighthawk 650, clutch fluid

Question
Mark,
I bought an 83 Honda Nighthawk 650.  Hasnt run in 18 years until 2 weeks ago.  Bike was stored with no gas and new oil.  Replaced the tires, cleaned the carbs, replaced the clutch fluid and she runs great except when I'm at a stoplight with the bike in gear and the clutch disengaged the clutch has slowly reengaged a couple of times.  I bled the clutch again but got no bubbles.  I'm not sure what to do now.  Should I try to rebleed the clutch or should I start looking at the master or slave cylinder?  Also the battery is not charging.  Should I replace the stator or rotor? if so, which one.  Thanks for ny help you can give.

Answer
Hi Trey,

I need your email address to return tech files to you.

Visit "www.electrexusa.com" and follow their troubleshooting chart. This company manufactures better than OEM electrical components.

Give the clutch some time to adjust after being non-started for years. The clutch plates may need to scrub of oxidation, rust, corrosion, etc.. before they work properly, if at all. If replacement is necessary, replace fiber plates, metal plates, and clutch springs as a set. No exceptions.

The hydraulic system may be fine. Again, wait and see if the symptoms change with a few miles. Review my tech files on bleeding the system.

Perform a altenator output test to check charging system.
