Motorcycle Repair: Cold weather vs carbeurator, warm weather, cold weather

Question
I have just finished restoring a 1978 Kawasaki 1000LTD to running order. It runs really great in warm weather but I have noticed that on cool (low 50's), damp mornings, it runs roughly at low speeds and does a lot of backfiring from the left exhaust pipe when I let off on the accelerator, even after it has been driven 24 miles (which 'should' have warmed the engine completely). It has only been about 300 miles since I had it tuned up and new plugs, plug wires, etc.

Answer
Hi David,

I'll need you to remove and describe the appearance of the spark plugs. Keep the plugs separated with respect to the cylinder they are removed from.

Visit the following website:

www.nightrider.com/biketech/spkplghnbook.htm#We

Compare your KZ's plugs to those pictured on the website and advise. We'll go from there.

Send me an email as requested. I'll return numerous carburetor tuning, cleaning, and repair information files that will assist you with correcting the problem.

My email addy is: mshively1@woh.rr.com

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
