Motorcycle Repair: amount of fork oil needed when changing fork seal, fork oil, fork seal

Question
Hey Christopher,

I just changed a totally leaking oil seal on my 1990 yamaha yx600 radian street bike and I for the life of me can not find how much fork oil to put in even if its close so I can ride tonight as all the dealers are closed on mondays, thanks Brian Buckner

Answer
Hi Brian.
I don't have the exact specs for your bike, so the best that I can do for that is to give you a best guess.
Forks for bikes in the 500cc - 700cc range normally take somewhere between 300-400cc of fork oil.  The amount varies from bike to bike.  The exact amount should be in the quick reference chart in your repair manual.  If not there, then it will be in the section that covers the forks.

Good luck.
