Motorcycle Repair: Headlight does not work, turn signal switch, yamaha virago

Question
I have a 1981 Yamaha Virago and the headlight does not work.  I have replaced the bulb and the headlight relay.  I have checked for power coming to the headlight switch and it appears power is not getting to the switch.  I have also been having problems with the left hand turn signal.  I sprayed cleaner on the contacts and jiggled the wires coming into the turn signal switch.  Now I can get them to work.  Maybe the headlight problem is related to wiring coming into the handlebar switch.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Rick, mighty famous name you got there. Except he was Ricky Johnson...I can still hear that name ringing in my ears from the Moto announcers shouting it during an entire race. Any way Rick time to break out that quality #2 Phillips screwdriver and investigate your switch gear. Be careful not to strip out the screws, if you dont have a decent phillips go out and buy one. I suspect your problem will soon become apparent when you peek inside your switch. Have some fine sandpaper on hand to clean up the brass contacts and relax, enjoy your motorcycle, this is what it's all about..ridin, wrenchin, shinin...ride some more
let me know if you get stuck...
