Motorcycle Repair: brake caliper, brake caliper, brake failure

Question
I have had a problem with my rear brake on my 91 katana for a while now.  I lost some brake pressure and I noticed some brake fluid sprayed on the swingarm, but the hose did not have a leak in it.  I took it to a bike shop and they got pressure back in the brake but did not replace anything.  Now I have the problem again.  I put fluid back in, but not knowing much about brakes I don't really know what else to do.  What do I need to do to get pressure back in my brake?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Matt, you need to isolate the source of the leak. In order to do that you need to get some pressure in the system and unfortunatly without a mighty vac you wont be able to. I suggest taking it back to the shop and have them diagnose the problem only. Not bandaid fix it for me and send me on my way or throw parts at it hoping to fix it. This is your brakes and you need them working 100%.
If they are unable to diagnose the problem or unwilling too find a shop that will. Remember its very important to use the correct approach with service departments. If you saunter in and tell the service writer : Hey I got a problem with my brakes can you guys fix that today?" You are headed into trouble. A better approach might be "Hi I am Matt and my 91 Katana seems to have developed a rear brake failure and loss of fluid, can I schedule an appointment for a technician to diagnose the problem and possibly call me with an estimate for repairs please. If you want to you can mention that you were in earlier for this problem and it has returned, so you really would like it diagnosed first then a call with an estimate for the repair.  Give it a try... thanks for asking
