Motorcycle Repair: 1979 Kaw 100cc 2 stroke, air gap, model bike

Question
-------------------------
Followup To When this has occurred, I checked the carb, and the slide was at the bottom of the carb, so I was able to rule out the carb cable, and the carb... Our local shop related that there could be an air leak in the case which would let air into the cylinder and cause run on...They recommended that I rebuild the motor with all new gaskets... This seemed like a lot of work, and I wasn't sure that it would solve the problem...My experience has been with larger engines where the carb is attached to the cylinder.. This is the first time that I have worked on a motor where the carb is attached to the side of the motor... I wasn't sure if an air gap between the carb and the cylinder would cause this... It reminds me a lot of a car that experienced run-on or dieseling when the motor is turned off. Except with high revs... Also, I am puzzeled because the key is in the off position, and the stop switch is in the off position when this occurrs.  Any idea about this ?Thanks again Glen for the help and ideas A.J.

I am restoring the listed motercycle for my son..I got it running, but for no reason the engine will rev very high and we are unable to shut it off... Using the key and the kill button...I was able to reach down and cover the air intake to the carb to shut it off before it blew up.. If I start it again the bike will run fine and all components work ie.. key engine kill etc.. Then for no reason the engine takes off again.. I have checked the throtel line and it is not bound... I am stuck

AJ, Sounds like the carb. slide is freezing up,and when you give it a little gas it sticks?.Check for a sticking slide or a bad cable? Good luck. Glen

Answer
J, If this has a rotary valve intake system? It Could be crank seales leaking?? You will have to take it to a place where they can pull a vaccume on the engine. That will tell you if you have bad seals or a leak in system. But remember, you are not working with a late model bike, and even when restored it will still be only worth a couple of hundred bucks. So don"t get over budget !!Good luck.Try me again. Glen
