Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Seca 750, japanese bike, down position

Question
The problem is that my 750 Seca will just quit running while I am driving.  As soon as I stop and put it in neutral, it will start right up.  Sometimes I can even get it started while I am still coasting after it has stopped running.  It is intermittent and the local Yamaha shop is no help.  The side kick stand switch is missing a rod that activates the switch when the stand is in the down position.  Could it still be the swithch even if it is always in the up position?  Any help would be great.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Lee.
That sidestand switch is most likely the problem.  It needs to be bypassed.  This is actually a common problem to almost every japanese bike out there since they began installing these switches.

There are 3 wires to the switch.  Find the 2 that allow the engine to run when they are connected and splice them together.  If that doesn't fix the problem, then the problem would have to be in the ignition wiring.  However, I am fairly certain that the sidestand cutoff switch is the problem.  If it has already been bypassed, then the connection of the splice could be loose.

Good luck.
