Motorcycle Repair: 1981 Suzuki GS750GL, regulator rectifier, altenator

Hi Mark,

I have an '81 Suzuki GS750GL that will not start.  I was riding end of last summer when it completely died while riding.  I had to push it home.  I am trying to get it running again.  I charged the battery completely (it's only 2 years old).  I suspect something electrical, but I have no clue where to start.  The lights, indicators all function properly.  Can you help?

Hi Kevin,

Sounds as if the Altenator and regulator/rectifier are defective. This is just my guess without performing tests.

For testing procedures, purchase the service manual. There's too much to type to explain it all. Testing is easy with  multi-meter.

You must have a battery in good condition and fully charged before testing or test readings will be innaccurate.
