Question
When bike (1992 xlh with 9,500 miles 883)is cold engine is quite but after 10 min. it seems like valves need adjustment. It does not get worse running shorter or longer,Nor does it miss in fact it runs strong.I have put a 180 jet in it ,a hydobooster air cleaner, and s.eagles mufflers on it I did take the baffles out could that be the problem, no or not enough back pressure. Also number 2 question. When it is been on the road 30 min.it is hard to get it in to neutral and somtime when you come to a stop and down shift it back to 1st it will not be in first you let clutch out and and pull it back in, then push lever down then it will engage in to 1st.Help me please. It,s my 1st Harley and I dont know how they act yet.stephenmeade09@msn.com

Answer
Sportsters are known for valve train noise. Your bike is probably not making any more noise than any other sportster.
There is no adjustment on your valves. You have solid pushrods, unless they have been changed before you bought the bike.
As to your second question. Downshift to 1st before stopping. Alot of harleys are hard to find netural. There is a small space for the shifter mech to go to netural. I have had several bikes that when the bike was running I couldnt get it into netural. I had to shut the bike off to find it.
Good luck and happy riding
