Motorcycle Repair: no fire, vulcan nomad, check engine oil

my friend bought a flood damaged 1999 vulcan nomad.  can not get any fire to any spark plug. any idea?

Hi Rick,

Check engine oil (crankcases) for water. Dry all wiring, connectors, and secondary spark plugs leads. I would simply replace the battery. Check and all safety switches for corossion. Check pick-up coils, ignition coils, and spark plugs.

You just have to look for problems such as: any wires or connectors that are other than clean and dry. Apply dielectric grease to all connectors. This prevents water shorting (displaces water).

Check starter motor, starter relay, altenator, etc...

A service manual is a sound investment. It will pay for itself with the first home repair.
