Chris, I own a 1982 Honda GL1100 Interstate. I am experiencing a minor fluid leak around the gear shifter shaft, where it comes out of the engine (transmission?). What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

Answer -
Hi Dale.
There is an oil seal that goes around that shaft where it exits the oil-containment portion of the case.  It has gone bad.  Just replace it and all will be well.

Good luck.

Falcon, what, if any, disassembly is required in replacing the oil seal for the shifter?

Answer
Hi Dale.
Replacing that seal will require opening up the crankcase to access the inside og that portion.  It is designed that way to prevent the seal from slipping out.

Unless you have everything that you need to do deep engine work, I would just take it to a pro to do.

Good luck.
