Motorcycle Repair: Engine Idel Speed, honda vtx 1800, 2003 honda vtx 1800

Question
I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 and have just performed most of the 4000 mile scheduled maintenance myself.  However, I need to check the engine idle speed but my bike is not equipped with a tachometer.  Can I somehow use a multimeter or other low cost device to measure RPM's?

Answer
Hi Mark.
Unfortunately, the only way to know the idle rpm's is with a tach.  There is no way that I have ever heard of that you could do it with a multimeter or any other similar device.  Other than buying a field tachometer, you could invest in an aftermarket electronic tach and have a shop install it for you.  Other than that, I don't know what you could do.

Sorry.
