Motorcycle Repair: 1982 honda xr100, honda xr100, screw adjustment

thanks for your help. i can now get the bike to start,but it wont idle right and the engine will race on its own without using the throttle.i set the valves at .004".could that be the problem?

Hi John,

Most Honda valve clearances are .003" to .006" you should be fine.

A couple of things to check:
1. Throttle and choke cable routing and adjustment-causes high or low idle.
2. Idle screw adjustment.
3. Intake air leak-causes high idle.
4. Choke stuck open.
