Nissan Repair: 95 Altima, o2 sensors, nissan dealer

Question
I have a 95 Altima I recently had the drivetrain rebuilt. My car sometimes hesitates and sputters and runs rich and the RPMs jump up and down. I did replace both O2 sensors, because they were reading less than 1 volt, its obviously got new plugs due to the recent rebuild. It does not stall since replacing the sensors, but randomly, (I cannot reproduce it), it will act up (hesitate, burn very rich, flux in RPMs at idle / neutral (its a 5 speed)), and randomly clear itself up. I have taken it to the Nissan dealer and 2 other shops around here and have heard 3 different answers, one guy says the ECU, the dealer says the Distributor is leaking oil and that is 100% the reason for my troubles (the cap and rotor are new and timing is correct as well), and the third place said it is the Catalytic Converter. I just would like another opinion before I spend money, in hopes it is not wasted. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Nick -

Is your check engine light on?
The O2 sensors work on millivolts, so below 1 volt is normal.

If your check engine light is on, then I will need the code from an OBD reader.

If the check engine light is not on, then here is a quick check for the ECU:

Turn the ignition on. The check engine light should go one as well, and turn off after a few seconds. If it does not do that, then the ECU is probably bad.

Hope this helps -
