Nissan Repair: 1986.5 D21 Fuel injection, sea foam, fuel injectors

Question
Hello. I have a 1986.5 D21 hard body tuck and I'm having what I think is a fuel issue when driving at high speeds and now more recently lower speeds. When I'm on the highway every once in a while I will get a mili second stutter in the power of the truck. Sometime I will get a few in a row. At first I put sea foam in the tank and all my problems were solved for many tanks of fuel. Have you ever heard of a problem like this? Are there screens/filters on the fuel injectors that can be replaced? I've looked through the service manual and can't tell. The reason I ask is because I bought a throttle body re-build kit (only needed the base gaskets) and there were 2 circular screens included. I could not determine where they went so I did not install them. The fuel filter is like new so I know that is not the issue. Thank you very much, Eric.

Answer
Hi Eric -

The last time I encountered something like this, I had to replace the fuel pump.

I am assuming the hesitation happens when the engine is under load, such as up hills, upon acceleration, or just before shifting.

If so, I would check the fuel pump for proper pressure (about 45 - 50 PSI) and volume.

Hope this helps -
