QUESTION: Hi calvin this is Tammy again yes it does overheat and the temp gauge is on hot the engine light has remained on for years when my husband purchases car used was told it was a short in engine light the car ran well for a couple years then started shutting down and leaving us stranded then started over heating

Answer
Hi Tammy -

First of all you should check the engine light and see what the code is. I doubt if there is a short. If you give me the number, I will be more than happy to research it for you. I think Autozone can do it. It is called an OBD test.

Secondly, if it takes about 10 - 20 minutes to overheat, I would check the thermostat. Also ensure the electric fan(s) are working. If they aren't, I have a diagnostic process for you to go through. Let me know.

Hope this helps -
