Answer
Brett,

Sounds like the injectors are leaking and that is causing the hard start.  It seems to be flooding and that is why you have to put your foot to the floor.  Change the fuel filter and use an injector cleaner.  If that does not work you need to verify by using a fuel pressure gague that the injectors are leaking.  This is accomplished by screwing the gauge onto the schrader valve on the injector rail.  Start the car and then turn it off.  If the injectors are leaking the pressure will drop off rapidly.  If the pressure stays then you might have a stuck fuel pressure regulator.  Get a Haynes Manual and verify the fuel pressure by those provided in the book.
