Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Quest shifter issue, nissan quest, wrecking yard

Question
I have a 1995 Nissan Quest that has been having issues changing gears on the indicator.  The shift lever (if that what it is called) seems loose and I have to move past reverse then come back to engage into reverse. Sometimes when I put it in drive it ends up in 2nd then I have to move it slightly up to get in Drive.  What could be causing that? I was told it was the shift handle that is broken. how do I find a replacement without knowing what its actually called?

Answer
Kathy,

If the shifter is loose and you can feel it you need to replace it.  If the shifter feels tight but the linkage is what is causing the problem then it is probably the shift bushing on the transmission.  If it is the actual shifter you will need to source one on-line or a wrecking yard.  Unless you can find someone that can rebuild yours.  It is the shifter in the vehicle if you are looking for what it is called.
