Nissan Repair: 95 sentra alternator, nissan sentra, haynes manual

Question
Hello, My alternator went out on my nissan sentra. I am going to replace it by myself but i dont know if there is a specific size torque wrench i need to use.I have the replacement Alternator but do you think it is possible to change it by myself or should I just take it to a shop?

Answer
Aprly,

I would say you could do the job if you have metric tools to get the belts loose and the bolts off.  No torque wrench required for the job.  Just hand tight.

Start by disconnecting the battery cable (the negative one) as this will prevent sparks.

Remove the alternator belt by loosening the belt and then remove the wires noting where they go.  A camera phone is good to take pictures.

Next, remove the two bolts that hold the alternator on the car and pull it up and out.

Install the new (rebuilt unit) reverse of what you did to get the old one off.

A Haynes Manual for your car is excellent since it has diagrams and photographs to compare your car with.  About $20 bucks for the manual.
