Nissan Repair: Shifter was first stuck on park, now it moves but car doesnt, shift lock, initial problem

Question
Nissan 2006 Sentra. The initial problem was I could not removed the keys from the ignition, it was because the shifter was not well moved on park. When I was able to remove the key, the shifter at first would not move. I then followed by resetting the shift lock. Now the gear shifter moves, the car doesn't it's as if it was permanently stuck on park. The spedometer moves when given gas It seems like the gears aren't changing though. What could be the problem?

Answer
Hi Tina -

You will need to have your transmission looked at. The gears are not engaging to move the vehicle. If the speedometer is working when revving in neutral, that means it is in "gear" but not engaged.

I am assuming you have enough transmission fluid?

I am thinking you are looking at a trans overhaul for the repair -

Hope this helps -
