Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Altima, nissan altima, power transistor

Question
QUESTION: Hi Calvin,
My 1993 Altima cuts off at idle only when its in park after its warm up? it won't run in park for more than 30 seconds, and if i put it in drive, it will idle at 500 rpm. but sometimes it will try to cut off, but it will start up again. also if it is warm it is harder to start! it takes longer cranks on the starter!
I changed plugs,fuel filter,cap,rotor,plug wires..still no change!

ANSWER: Hi David -

500RPM is a little low in drive. Should be more like 650 - 700.

Also comes to mind is the ignition module in the distributor. If your problems occur only when the engine is warmed up, that is a probable cause.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: Yes the meter check was done on a hot engine, and its idle is at 650rpm now.

Answer
Hi David -

Do this test for me -

With the engine hard starting condition existing (hot), open the intake boot and spray some starter fluid in the intake. Replace the boot very quickly and try to start the engine before the fluid evaporates.

If the engine starts right away, then it could be the fuel solenoid that is not priming the intake.
