Nissan Repair: D21 clutch slipping, clutch, accelerator

Question
Hello,

You answered my question before about how to test the clutch for slipping. I did the test and according to what you wrote it would be slipping. I guess I just don't understand how the test works. I mean of course the rpm's are going to go up when you depress the clutch and accelerator at the same time?

Answer
HI Eric -

Yes, but if the car does not move, or is sluggish then you know the clutch is slipping and will use more fuel. The car will eventually move, but I was talking about the first part when you start releasing the clutch in gear. If the RPM rises and then returns slowly car picking up speed very gradually, then the clutch will probably need replacement.

Question, in first gear, clutch depressed, when you start releasing the clutch, at what point does the car start to move? halfway, 3/4 way, almost to the top?

Thanks
calvin
