Nissan Repair: 06 Nissan Quest rough idle P0011 P0300, oil change interval, camshaft position

Question
QUESTION: Wife came home complaining of rough idle that just popped up at a stop sign. Had the codes checked and came up with P0011 (Camshaft position bank timing over advance) and P0300 (multiple misfire). Doing a little Googling, it seems that very low oil could cause this. And yes, I had gone well beyond the normal oil change interval. Took it in and was told it was very low, and got an oil change and new filter.  The rough idle doesn't seem as bad (I only drove it to Autozone and Walmart) but it is still there.  What would be my next course of action? If you can be very specific I would be grateful. I am not a mechanic, but I can follow clear instructions. Many thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Hi Paul -

When was your last tune up? Perhaps the misfire is being caused by the coils, spark plug wires, or spark plugs (Usually a multiple misfire is the coil(s)).

Is the check engine light still on, depicting misfire?

QUESTION: Calvin, Thanks for your reply. I have yet to clear the error codes. I tried the old "unplug the battery" for several hours but I don't think cleared the errors out. And no, I have not had a tune-up for this vehicle yet. I am within a few thousand miles of 100K so this may be a possible fix. Perhaps a full tune-up might resolve since this appears to be timing specific.  (hopefully) I will let you know as I plan to do SOMETHING this weekend. I appreciate your time and efforts. Blessings.

Answer
Hi Paul -

I think that would be the best thing to do. Start with the simple things and then you can eliminate one by one. I have seen too many times customers squander a lot of money on unnecessary car repairs by not following this simple rule.

Good luck this weekend -
