Nissan Repair: fuel gauge, nissan cefiro, fuel gauge

QUESTION: The fuel gauge for my nissan cefiro 2002seems to have a problem, the mechanic says the problem is not with the tank but on the gauge itself he recomends me buying a new board altogether which i cant find easily what can i do?

In all my years as a mechanic, I have never did replace a fuel gauge because it is not giving the right reading. The problem usually lies in the sending unit, which is next to the fuel pump in the fuel tank. Although I cannot confirm this by being there, I just thought I would let you know.

If you don't have a local dealer to get your parts from, perhaps you can get it on line, at say, perhaps www.autozone.com, or www.2carpros.com. here in hawaii we do not have listings for that model car so it is difficult for me.
