Nissan Repair: Nissan Sunny Door cannot be unlocked, left hand drive, click sound

Question
QUESTION: I had locked (the child lock) the left side passenger door of my Nissan Sunny 2003 model (1.6 ltr ebgine, Automatic transmission)Car. and the door is shut. What should I do to unlock it? For your info, it has a central lock at the driver's side door. I have tried to unlock with the remote control also, etc. but in vain. Can you please help?

ANSWER: Hello -

Question:

When you say you cannot unlock it with the remote, do your hear any noise in the door when you press the remote? If so, what kind of noise?

It could be that the linkage disengaged if you hear a noise, especially so if you cannot manually unlock it from inside, or with the key from outside.

QUESTION: Thank you very much for your prompt response. When I press the remote there is no noise at the locked door in question (left side back passenger door, but the inside latch pops out, but is not effective to open the door either from inside or outside by the pull up levers; now this door does not have a key hole, only the front two doors have). But there is a click sound (click + click, 2 beats in quick succession or slightly overlapping) at the driver's door. All the other 3 doors function normally. The Car is a LEFT Hand drive vehicle, for your info. Will this info help you in providing a solution? Please help.

ANSWER: Hello -

OK, it sounds like the linkage came off, probably the plastic clip is either broken or slipped off on the lock assembly.

The door panel needs to be removed to access the lock assembly. If you need assistance removing the panel, let me know, but it is pretty basic. Once it is removed, then you can access the nlock assembly near the latch part of the door. Look for a hanging wire link that has detached itself from the latch. It should have plastic clips at each joint, if not, purchase one, or perhaps it fell down into the door well. might want to look there.

QUESTION: Thanks very much Calvin, for your advice. Can you kindly tell me as to how do I proceed with removing the door panel. I need your assistance on this, please.

Awaiting,
Kind Regards,

Answer
You will need some basic tools. First you have to remove all accessories attached to the door, such as the arm rest, some door panels are two parts and fastened by screws. Most of them you will need a putty knife or similar tool to pry apart the panel from the door. Once apart, then disconnect all harnesses, such as the one for the window and door lock, linkages for the door handle, etc. Note how it is removed, as installation will be the reverse of that.
