Nissan Repair: ignition, neutral safety switch, nissan 720

Question
I have a 86 Nissan 720 that wont start with the key but will run when push starting,I have tried everything can you help me out thank you

Answer
Justin,

Does the engine crank when you turn the key?  If so, look at the start wire to the coil.  Backtrace the wire until you find where the power stops.  The way it is suppoed to work is the start mode provides 12 volts at the coil.  In run it drops to 9 volts.  If there is no power in start mode to the coil it would keep it from starting.

If it does not turn over when you turn the key would mean the starter, starter relay or ignition would be defective.  Or, the starter safety interlock, neutral safety switch if an automatic or clutch switch if a manual, is defective.
