QUESTION: The year is 1990. It does not have a electic fan, fan runs directly from waterpump. It started overheating after 10 km driving at any speed over 80 km/h. Even radiator cap is about 2 years old. Waterpump replaced about 2 years ago.

Answer
Hi Willie -

Couple things I can think of. If your car is automatic, could be transmission starting to slip. Did you notice any loss of power, especially up a hill?

Also, although the radiator has been flushed, it still could be partially clogged. Are the fins still intact?

This may also sound weird, but it could be with the thermostat removed, water is traveling too fast through the engine and at high speeds there is no time for the water to go through the radiator to cool sufficiently. Thus over higher speeds, the car will overheat. When I used to removed thermostats, I just removed the "guts" (thermal sensor and spring) and put the shell back in. This provided at least some back pressure to slow down the water for cooling.

Hope this helps -
